Cornhole League Rules

Okay, we’ll try to keep the rules simple…

  • SBS league shirts are mandatory uniforms. Players will not be allowed to play without them. Extras may be purchased.
  • The game is similar to horseshoes.
  • 2 people per team, 4 bags per team.
  • Team partners face each other at opposite board sets that are paced out at approx. 15-20 feet apart. (1 person from each team at each board)
  • Opponents alternate tossing the bags into the hole in the board, until all 8 bags have been thrown.
  • The last team to score on previous round throws first.
  • The thrower must stand behind the front foot line on the board. If he/she crosses and throws, they lose that throw. Also, if someone tosses out of turn, they lose that throw.
  • Bags hitting the ground first and rolling onto the board do not count.
  • If there is interference, the player may toss again.
3 points for a bag in the hole, 1 point for on the board.
  • Score is calculated as difference in team totals per throw session.

For example, team 1 gets 1 bag in the whole and 1 bag on the board = 4 points. Team 2 gets 1 bag in the hole = 3 points. The final score from the throw is team 1 with 1 point. (4-3=1)
First team to 21 wins.

  • Each night will last approximately one hour for each wave. Teams play for best 2 out of 3 games in that hour. If there is left over time, teams may continue to play for fun! If time runs out, games end with current score.
  • There will be referees managing game play and questions; however each game will be self-scored. Team captains must be cordial and agree on scores.
  • Most important rule: Courtesy! We’re all here to have fun, if there is anyone acting in an overly aggressive or disrespectful manner and ruining the fun for the other players, they will be kicked out of the league. Most likely ridiculed by the entire league as well.
  • Keep it clean, honest, and fun!

If players feel strongly about changing any of the rules, you may make a suggestion through your team captain. Your team captain may submit that request to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
We would be happy to modify and model the league rules around how the players would like to play.

*SBS reserves the right to modify rules at any point.
